Today we discussed the flight of Jesus, Mary and Joseph into Egypt and what we are called to do when we see something wrong happening.

The children opened the worship processing into the sanctuary in costume. Gifts from our ancestors was the theme of the The Wonder Box part of the service. When we were sung out we went to the RE floor for an all ages discussion of the ancient religious origins of Halloween and how they have changed over time.

The story of Cain and Abel was discussed in class while the Garden of Eden construction continued. This is one of the more difficult stores of the Hebrew Scriptures. The themes of jealousy and sibling rivalry, anger and what to do with feelings of anger.

This week we discussed the two creation stories contained in Genesis, concentrating on Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. The class began dioramas of Eden and made earthlings. Work on dioramas will conclude next week.

We explored family crests or coat of arms as a way to understand families and lineage, an important element in the bible. WE discussed the Hebrew and Christian scriptures as libraries not a single book. And we talked about whether the stories in the Bible really happened. If not, why do so many people find meaning in them? And we talked about whether the messages and lessons in the Bible have relevance to UUs.

The Blessing of the Animals service was a wonderful service. We lift up our 7th Principle as we recognize our bonds with the non human members of our families and sing the words of Francis of Assisi.
